Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church

The Place to Grow in Grace.

Roger Carson, Jr., Senior Pastor

Rev. Roger D. Carson, Jr. was born and raised in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Rev. Carson served at two churches, Bethel Temple Baptist Church and the Historic Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, before being called into the Pastoral Ministry. At Mt. Zion, he served in many capacities, from the Ushering Ministry to Youth Pastor. During his years at Mt. Zion he was privileged to be mentored by one the greatest soul-stirring preachers of our time, Dr. Sterling L. Jones.

Rev. Carson is a product of the Detroit Public Schools System, attending Charles F. Kettering High School. He also attended Wayne State University, University of Phoenix, and Destiny School of Ministry. He has a B.A. in Business Administration from Westgate University.

Rev. Carson is the former Pastor of the Historic Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Port Huron, Michigan. In July 2009, he became the youngest Pastor in the 92-year history of that church. During his time there, he preached passionately the word of God, baptized many new converts and exposed the members to effective training opportunities outside of the city limits.

On Saturday, September 18, 2010, at a special called meeting, Rev. Carson was elected as the Senior Pastor of the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan.

Pastor Carson is also the President of Next Step Community Development Corporation, a domestic non-profit organization which is an outreach arm of the Shady Grove Church.

Pastor Carson has three children; Chloe’ Madison (12), Matthew Raiden (6), and Rachel Aoki-Marie (3).

Pastor Carson’s theme scripture for his Pastoral Ministry is Ephesians 4:11-12, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
